Day 08 – Rest Day – Only a Three Hour Walk

We have a lie in this morning. Bed tea at 7.30, breakfast at 8.15.

The idea today is go a bit higher, up to the snow line, get used to a bit more altitude. We can wait until the sun catches at 9.30 before setting off.

Nice views back across Thangnak.

A functional sort of place.

As we head further up the mountainside the entire bowl is revealed. A post-glacial landscape.

This particular mountain captivated – Char Pate Himal over 7000m unclimbed despite attempts by Japanese and Korean teams.

Apparently, they tried to climb it Alpine style (moving on a rope) from this side over the grey shoulder on the right. Other routes are too prone to avalanche.

Have I done many accommodation pictures?

This is the teahouse style: twin rooms, bed, mattress, window, bedside table or window ledge. That is it. No heating, no electricity, no light, no storage. Fortunately my sleeping bag is brilliant.

The perilous steps go up to our rooms. On the right are two rooms. The loo a basic squat facility with barrel of water and jug for flushing (photo not really appropriate) and on right the shower room: jug and bucket and free draining stone floor.

With the last of the sunshine at 3.30 it is time to huddle in the common room and hope they light a fire. Not much to do until bedtime at 8.00.
