Day 14 – Down

After a bit of a lie-in, and the usual porridge breakfast, time to get moving. No day off up here in Khare. Time to descend.

Today we walk all the way down to Khote, a distance it took us two days to achieve going up.

The best thing about retracing our route is the views which we were too tired to turn around and admire on the way up.

Truly wonderful mountain scenery. Khare was at the snow line, so now we are walking among the high level grasses and juniper scrub.

Morning tea is at Thangnak, the place we spent two nights on the way up. Their specialty fresh apples (300 rupees each, sliced and served on a plate) are a treat.

Further down the scrub becomes denser and the first rhododendrons appear.

Lunch is at a tea house we remember having morning tea at on the first day up from Khote – a nice place by the river.

The brave use the facilities.

Then its just a couple of hours down the increasingly lush valley to Khote, for an early afternoon finish.
