I will fill in some of the previous days of the trip which have been great, and eventful! But in an attempt to get a bit more real time. Here is what we’re up to now. We have started the camping part of our trip. This is vehicle based camping, which is really popular in Costa Rica.

We had booked a two-door Suzuki Jimmy from Nomad America. This is one of those jeep things, nothing too pretentious. Unfortunately that vehicle was unavailable for technical reasons, so we have been “upgraded” to a Toyota Land Cruiser monster truck.

After first being rather daunted at the idea of driving something this big, I soon got the hang of it! In Costa Rica no one let’s you pull out of junctions, not rudeness, just patience that they all have in abundance; you just have to pull out in front of people. They don’t seem to mind, especially when you are driving something like this!

We got up to our first campsite in the hills near Volcan Poas. This is on our way to the Arenal area where we plan on doing our camping. After five hours of driving up from the Caribbean cost this morning, another hour’s driving into the hills was more than enough for today.

We stopped at this lovely campsite called Capiriland. We managed to get the tent setup done, helped by Jose the campsite owner, Sarah cooked dinner whilst I failed to get a campfire lit – the wood being too wet was my excuse. All set for our first night camping in a tent on top of a car.
